Hybrid & EV Repairs & Servicing
Hybrid & EV Repairs & Servicing in Widnes - Autotec Northwest
With the ever-increasing number of electric and hybrid vehicles on the roads, the demand for garages that are qualified and competent at working on these cars also increases.
At the moment, it can be difficult to find such a provider, which is why at Autotec Northwest we are really pleased to offer a full range of repair and maintenance services for drivers of EV and hybrid cars in the Widnes area.
We work on all electric and hybrid models of BMW, MINI and VW Group vehicles and because we follow the manufacturer’s specifications for repairs and servicing, any warranty that’s left on your vehicle remains 100% valid. We offer you the same high standard of work on your EV that the main dealer would but we also give you a really positive customer experience along with much more affordable prices.
Electric vehicles have high-voltage systems that power the electric motors so can potentially be risky to work on.
It’s therefore essential that any repairs or servicing that need doing to your EV are carried out by properly trained, qualified professionals. At Autotec Northwest, we have trained and are fully qualified to work on electric vehicles. We have fitted our workshop with specialist EV equipment such as rubber-tipped tools which allow us to work safely and efficiently on your electric vehicle.
In recognition of the training that we have completed and the adaptations that we have made to our workshop to accommodate electric and hybrid vehicles, we have been invited to join the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance (HEVRA) which is a network of the top EV and hybrid repair and service centres across the country.
Yes, just as with any other vehicle on the roads, your electric car will need to start having MOT tests after three years. Most of the components that are checked in the MOT test are relevant to an electric car too, such as the brakes, tyres, and lights for example. The main difference is that as your EV has no exhaust, so there are no emissions checks to be done. Autotec Northwest carries out MOT tests here at our workshop in Widnes so do get in touch if you have any questions.
They are. There are far fewer component parts in an electric car which means that there’s basically less that can go wrong. If you think there’s something up with your EV, get in touch with our team at Autotec Northwest. We’re fully qualified and experienced in working on electric and hybrid vehicles.
No. The good news is that electric cars are exempt from congestion charges so there is nothing to pay, leaving you free to drive into city centres as you wish.
Yes, they generally are less expensive to run and maintain than a standard petrol or diesel vehicle. Clearly, there are no fuel costs, no oil to top up, and because there is no engine as such, there is less that can go wrong and so you save money on repairs.
Currently, there is no road tax to pay on an EV but you do have to register your car and get it taxed even though you don’t have to pay to do so. However, from April 2025, drivers of EVs will have to start paying for road tax.
There are more and more places available to charge your EV such as public car parks, supermarket car parks and motorway service stations. Many people find that the most convenient thing to do is to have a chargepoint installed at home so that you can easily top up your battery charge. If you’re not sure where your nearest public chargepoint is, the map below should help you locate it.
Autotec Northwest is committed to delivering high standards in all that we do and are proud to have been accepted as a member of the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance (HEVRA), a network of the best EV and hybrid repair and service centres across the country.
